How do you rent an item on Nolex?

To rent on Nolex you start by searching for what you need in your area: you browse listings by category and open a listing to see its photos, price, deposit and availability. Before your first booking you complete a one-time identity check through Stripe Identity, which takes just a few minutes and protects both renters and hosts. When you are ready, you pick your dates and book. The rental price, the security deposit and any optional damage coverage are charged together through Stripe, so Nolex never sees or stores your card details. Your email address and phone number stay hidden from the host until the booking is confirmed. After the rental ends, if the host reports no problems, the deposit and the damage coverage are refunded automatically to the card you paid with, with no request needed. You can follow the status of every booking from its detail page in the app.

How do you earn money as a host on Nolex?

Anyone can become a host on Nolex, whether you rent out a single camera or manage a whole catalog. You start by creating a free host profile, which is called a business in the app, and completing a one-time verification (KYB) before you publish your first listing. The details the verification asks for depend on your situation and are shown during the process. Then you add photos, a price, a security deposit and the quantity available, and publish when you are ready. Customer payments arrive directly in your Stripe account through Stripe Connect, which you link during setup: the rental amount is credited once a booking is confirmed and paid, while the security deposit is held until the rental ends. You can invite teammates as owners or operators, and only owners can access payments. Every host also has a dedicated support queue to answer customers.

How does payment work on Nolex?

When you book, the rental price, the security deposit, and any damage coverage are charged together through Stripe, a widely used payment provider. Nolex never sees or stores your card details — everything runs through Stripe's secure infrastructure, not our own servers. The security deposit protects the host in case of damage or a missing return; damage coverage, when the listing includes it, covers minor issues that can happen during normal use. If the rental ends with no issues reported by the host, both the deposit and any damage coverage are refunded automatically to the same card used for payment, with no request needed on your part.

Do I need to verify my identity to rent something?

Yes: before completing your first booking you need to verify your identity through Stripe Identity, Stripe's identity verification service. It's a one-time check that takes just a few minutes — usually an ID document and a photo are enough — and it protects both renters and hosts by reducing the risk of fake accounts or bad-faith behavior. Once verified, your identity stays valid for every future booking, so you never have to repeat it. Hosts go through an equivalent check for their own listing activity (KYB), so the safety works in both directions.
